Calorie Counter – Healthy Vegan Food in Colombo

Calorie Counter Offers Healthy Vegan Food

Nice and modern small cafe offering healthy options. We decided to visit this cafe because of its name and wanted to check it out. They offer a few vegan dishes which were on the menu, unfortunately, they were not available and we had to pick vegetarian dishes custom-made for vegans.

The menu set in 3 ways, you have options to chose protein dishes, carbohydrates dishes and vegetable dishes as well as dessert (if you like).  We had red rice noddles, lentils burgers, corn on a cob, roasted bell peppers and a roasted vegetable sandwich. The dishes were very tasty, particularly burgers; they were simply delicious.

Healthy Options

The most important thing we’ve noticed that it didn’t have any oil or rather very little oil in vegetables if at all. However, I had my doubts regarding the corn on the cob thinking that they may have used butter on it and wanted to question the waiter. But after reading the statement on the wall stating that the ‘Calorie Counter’ treat butter and sugar as the enemy to their cooking ingredients and they only use extra virgin olive oil and extra virgin coconut oil in their cooking. This statement reassured me that I am eating vegan and healthy food.

Conclusion: Does Calorie Counter offer Healthy Vegan Food?

Yes, they indeed offer healthy vegan food.

I will definitely recommend this place but you must consult with the waiter before ordering. Although, some dishes are labelled as vegan on the menu the staff still not fully aware of veganism. When I ordered the latte made with almond milk the waiter asked me if I want honey with it instead of sugar. So when you ordering food, make sure the waiter understands clearly that you are vegan. Apart from that, I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch there.
