Pagoda Tea Room – Historical Cafe with Vegan Food

Does Pagoda Tea Room offer Vegan Food?

The Pagoda Tea Room is located in the fort area of Colombo and it established in 1884. Due to its history, this old classical place is also one of the attractions for tourists in Colombo. Moreover, It was featured in Duran Duran’s Hungry Like the Wolf music video. We were in central Colombo roaming around and decided to pop into Pagoda Tea Room to find out if they serve any vegan food when we were passing by.

Historical Cafe That Takes You Back In Time

The cafe looked vintage outside and when we walked in, it certainly was like stepping back in time. The hall is quite spacious with a tall ceiling supported by columns. However, It felt like it hadn’t been maintained for a while and needed some love. Otherwise, the place was clean with adequate seating.

Good Vegan Food – Great Tea by Pagoda Tea Room

The main focus of this tea shop is to serve inexpensive food and snacks along with patties, quiches, cakes and pastries.
When comes to cakes and pastries there weren’t any vegan options available. But a friendly waiter recommended us to go for vegetable mixed fried rice with a serving of vegetable and papadam. It tasted good but wasn’t anything to write home about. The portion was a good size and it was quite fulfilling.

After all, Pagoda Tea Room has something available for vegans. Vegan food was tasty and very cheap.

The service was super quick and efficient. By the time I finished chewing my last bit of the dish, my empty plate was snatched away by the waiter. I guess the waiters get trained to be super efficient when comes to lunch time. The price is very cheap and it gets quite crowded during lunchtime.

It was exceptionally good for the price we paid 🙂
